Following the recent hype from the Great British Bake Off, baking has since captivated the nation, with cakes, cookies and sweets becoming more popular than ever - which will do wonders to the reputation for obesity this nation has now acquired. However, instead of applying the usual finishing touches of piped icing, beautifully crafted flowers and copious amounts of hundreds and thousands, one baker in particular, from Nevie-Pie Cakes in Hertfordshire, has taken it upon himself, using his skills to add finishing touches of a completely different kind, some would call them 'unimaginable'.
Yes, I'm afraid you're eyes are not deceiving you on this occasion - these are severed toes, something you expect to see on an episode of Midsomer Murders and not in a bakery. These gruesome, for want of a better word, figurines are in fact cookies, perfectly edible in a form some may call 'culinary cannibalism . Although before I portray a scene from the movie Hannibal, and apologies for those of you who are slightly screamish, let's draw your attention to the great level of detail the baker in question has gone into. His craftsmanship shows no bounds with the additional corns, fungus and chilblain, added to create the ultimate finishing effect, making it that all the more realistic - this is more than your average Maryland chocolate chip cookie! Unfortunately, I can't yet vouch for its flavour.
And the detail just gets better...
Here, we have another severed body part - an ear 'cake pop' showing great attention to detail with ear wax visible inside. Another one to tempt you getting your teeth into or maybe this enough to put you off cake for life?
If the pictures on cigarette packets weren't distasteful enough, here we have the edible version of lung cancer - a brutal culinary reminder of the harsh effects of smoking.
And if that wasn't enough to get your taste-buds aroused, see if you can stomach this:
Do we reckon this baker crusader may have taken his skills a little bit too far?
